Parables for the Long Way Home

Lenten Sermon Series at Peace Presbyterian Church

During Lent, the church slows down to listen—to Scripture, to the Spirit, and to the truth about ourselves before God. This season, we will journey through the parables of Jesus across the four Gospels, attending closely to the stories he told to reveal the Kingdom of God.

Jesus’ parables are familiar, yet they continue to surprise us. Through stories of seeds and soil, workers and vineyards, fathers and sons, neighbors and strangers, Jesus invites us to see God—and ourselves—more truthfully. These parables do not offer easy answers or simple moral lessons. Instead, they expose our assumptions, challenge our sense of fairness, and call us again to trust in God’s grace.

Parables for the Long Way Home invites us to walk the Lenten road with patience and honesty, resisting the urge to rush toward resolution. As we listen to Jesus’ stories week by week, we are reminded that Lent is not a shortcut to Easter, but a journey of repentance, faith, and hope—one in which God meets us along the way and faithfully leads us home.
